Project management made easy

Presenter: Alison Holland, Academic Technologist, Extension IT Location: Azalea Classroom This session will discuss educational technology strategies that are high impact and still quite doable. We’ll talk about how podcasting, email series, Qualtrics learning modules, micro videos, text message “nudges” and more can solve your primary educational challenges. Whether you want to deepen your impact, broaden your audience or simply drive in fewer snowstorms, we’ll have you covered!

Presenters: Becky Beyers, Director, Extension Communications, Amy Baker, Chief Technology Officer, Extension IT, and Terri Ebert, Extension Web Developer Location: Fireplace Room Extension's website is the primary tool we use to engage with both new and existing audiences. Over the past 18 months, the website extension.umn.edu has undergone a complete overhaul aimed at becoming more user-friendly, making the best uses of technology and meeting accessibility guidelines. The new site goes live this month and in this session, the project leaders will show you how the new site works, explain how staff from across Extension worked together across silos to get this massive project accomplished, and answer questions.

Presenters: Karen Matthes, Director, IT Training and Support and Lisa Hinz, Extension Educator, Leadership and Civic Engagement Location: Azalea Classroom There you are, in the online meeting space ready to lead or attend a meeting and silence is all you hear. You see the participant names on the screen, but are people just catching up on emails? Yes, you saved time on travel, but can you get anything done or are you feeling lost in virtual space? It's tempting to recycle face-to-face meeting practices online, but many don't translate without proper planning. Instead, create online meetings that get the group engaged and the work accomplished.

Presenter: Amy Baker, Chief Technology Officer, Extension IT Location: Teaching Classroom You've been using the topic-subtopic, outline-like slide design for years. But did you know that this practice is ineffective according to multimedia learning theory? In this interactive presentation, you'll learn how to make more effective visual design decisions. We'll dive into the mechanics and research behind multimodal learning. We'll examine a number of makeovers that show the proven assertion-evidence technique in action. This workshop isn't just about making slides more visually pleasing--it's about making them more functional for teaching and learning.

Presenters: Extension IT staff Location: Azalea Classroom Join us for short demonstrations of new tools you can use for collaboration, productivity and teaching. Attendees will rotate among simultaneous small group demonstrations and using examples, give you the information you need to decide if it would work for you. The open format will allow you to choose which demos you want to see, or see them all. This fun session will give you dozens of ideas and reboot your brain for fresh perspectives on how to enhance your work.

Presenter: Anna Alba, Executive Office & Administrative Assistant, Extension Center for Family Development Location: Classroom 1 You’ve built several surveys and collected data, now what? Come learn how to customize reports and distribute them based on your audience. This session requires moderate Qualtrics knowledge.

Presenters: Chris Bucksa, Interim Director and Senior Project Manager, and Diane Kleinman, Senior Business Analyst, University Services Project Management Office Location: Classroom 1 Have you ever looked for or needed a sampling of project management fundamentals that are applicable to those who manage critical work efforts but are not identified as project managers? Have you ever looked for easy to use tools to help you to manage projects more effectively? This session will include problem solving 101, process mapping, and project tools, techniques and activities. Christopher S. Bucksa is a senior project manager and interim Project Management Office director specializing in technology and business process improvement projects. He has 20 years of experience managing IT operations, leading change and delivering projects that range in size from departmental to enterprise.
